Good news for online high school students in Florida
Jamie Littlefield over at About.com has posted some good news. The state of Florida is mandating the creation of online high schools. Why is this such a good thing? Because Florida is home to a number of, ummm, “online high schools.” The bar is set so low in Florida for these schools that they have what equates to a business license and there is no oversight whatsoever.
This should put some of them out of business. And that is a very good thing.
Online interactive foreign language courses available
Laurel Springs School, in collaboration with Power-Glide is now offering five different foreign language in an interactive manner and all online.
I should tell you that this is a common question in my in-box: How do you learn a foreign language online?
Up to this point, it has not been easy. Language are only learned interactively. Just studying a book does not get you there. This is why I am particularly pleased that students will now have this option available from Laurel Springs School.
The languages available are Spanish, French, German, Chinese, and Latin.
Yet one more reason to like online high schools…
Online high schools have the ability to react more quickly to the changing world around them. What do you do when Pluto-the-planet becomes Pluto-the-not-planet?
