12-Year-Old goes to high school online

Amanda Monke is rather bright for her age and regular school wasn’t the challenge that it could be. Her mother and her decided to go online for high school because:

?We didn?t want anyone to know she was 12,? Betsy Monke said. ?I don?t know of any other program like that, without peers or teachers judging her for anything other than her work.?

It seems to be working out quite well for her. If you would like to read the entire article, it is here.

Online high schools on YouTube

I have recently written a short article on online high schools on YouTube. Increasingly, schools are putting videos on YouTube with the thought that this increases the likelihood of students going to their school.

I agree with that thought.

The American Academy upgrades website

The American Academy has recently upgraded their website. While there certainly was not anything wrong with it before, the new one certainly sets a standard that other online high schools might consider emulating. Personally, I like how accessible the site now is. No fumbling around looking for the specific information you need.

You can see it here.

Focus: Penn Foster High School

This week’s focus school is Penn Foster High School. It seemed a reasonable choice to choose the school that had the longest history of serving students in the United States. Take a read!

Address: 925 Oak Street, Scranton Pennsylvania 18515

Accredited: Middle States Commission on Secondary Schools

Snippet from listing: Earning your high school diploma at home with Penn Foster is convenient, affordable, and accredited. Since there is no set class schedule, you study when and where it’s convenient for you. You work at your own pace. There’s no one to rush you or hold you back. And while you’ll work independently, you’re never alone. Expert instructors and support staff – dedicated to helping you complete your coursework ? are just a phone call or an e-mail away.

Something to consider: Penn Foster has been around for over a hundred years (since 1890). You don’t last that long without having a sense of what you are doing and what it takes for students to achieve. The school accepts both teens and adults and, importantly for many of you, the program is self-paced.
