Blueprint Education, a nonprofit educational organization, is providing curriculum expertise to help Eagle Quest of Nevada offer accredited curriculum based on their existing program content in the “Hero’s Journey” program.
“I am very excited about this recent affiliation between Eagle Quest and Blueprint Education,” says Ray and Leslie Tippetts, co-founders of Eagle Quest (established February 2003).
“Our vision was to establish an agency that would provide youth with the best services available, create programs around activities that would teach important life skills, as well as give our youth opportunities of a lifetime,” Tippetts states. “Enhancing our program to now help kids earn transferrable high school credits further reinforces our vision.”
The Hero’s Journey program is an innovative six week adventure program held in Nevada’s back-country. The program is designed to help at-risk, disadvantaged youth overcome life’s challenges. “Blueprint Education is aligning the program content to Nevada State Educational Standards including calculating ‘seat time’, verifying assessment of learning objectives, and aligning daily learning objectives and activities to established state standards,” states Jennifer Blackstone, Assistant Superintendent at Blueprint.
Blackstone says, “students may be eligible to earn up to 1.0 credit of Physical Education, 0.5 credit of Health, and 0.5 credit of English once the final assessments and supplemental activities are in place.”
“We are excited about what this will mean for our participants. They can still be earning credits even though they aren’t in a traditional school. There’s a lot to learn while out in Nevada’s back country and it’s great that Blueprint has the know how to translate experiential learning into traditional academic value,” says Tippetts. “We feel that this type of hands on experience is just as important as what they learn in a classroom.”
