Is there any advantage to choosing an online high school in your state? For most people, the general thought is why it would make a difference if it is in your state because it is online. In many cases, that is a reasonable assumption.
However, there are a few reasons for why you should consider that in-state option:
- Some online schools are public schools. This can make them free for you, but only if you live in that state (or county or school district, etc.)
- If you have a problem with the school, there is something to be said for being able to walk into the school to get that problem resolved.
- If your plan is to attend college in that same state, it can be helpful with the admissions office to know about the school. This is more likely if it is in the same state.
All that being said, being in the same state is typically not a major factor in online school selection.
