Excel High School is a new online high school for the BOHS website. In addition to its listing page, you will notice that it is also listed under Helpful Links (off to the right where it says “Are you looking for an online high school?”)

What you may not know about this school is that it recently received accreditation from AdvancED and NCA CASI. This means that their program would be acceptable to most colleges and universities in the U.S.

I encourage you to take a look at this online high school diploma program in Minnesota!

Should you go to an online high school in your state?

Is there any advantage to choosing an online high school in your state? For most people, the general thought is why it would make a difference if it is in your state because it is online. In many cases, that is a reasonable assumption.

However, there are a few reasons for why you should consider that in-state option:

  1. Some online schools are public schools. This can make them free for you, but only if you live in that state (or county or school district, etc.)
  2. If you have a problem with the school, there is something to be said for being able to walk into the school to get that problem resolved.
  3. If your plan is to attend college in that same state, it can be helpful with the admissions office to know about the school. This is more likely if it is in the same state.

All that being said, being in the same state is typically not a major factor in online school selection.
